The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is responsible for the regulation of broadcasting, the Internet, radiocommunications and telecommunications in Australia.
Under Australian law, the ACMA Hotline investigates and actions complaints from the Australian public and law enforcement about a range of offensive and illegal online content, with a focus on content depicting child sexual abuse.
Where illegal material is identified as being hosted in Australia, the ACMA employs legislated powers to take down material and regularly liaises with Australian law enforcement in this regard.
Where illegal content is identified as being hosted overseas, it is notified to either the Australian Federal Police or through INHOPE – the International Association of Internet Hotlines – for law enforcement investigation and rapid take-down in the host or production country. Take-down typically occurs within days, if not hours.
Information passed to the ACMA Hotline from members of the Australian public and international partners has led to the arrest and successful prosecution of Australians involved in the distribution and production of child sexual abuse material.
The ACMA’s role in eradicating online child sexual abuse material helps stop the re-victimisation of children who have suffered sexual abuse by removing of the record of their abuse, as well as disrupting access to this highly offensive content.

If you see or become aware of online child sexual abuse material or other illegal content, you can report it to ACMA Hotline using the online complaint form at www.acma.gov.au/hotline. Complainants can remain anonymous if they wish.
